Laura at Best of British Barbering & Hairdressing
Edinburgh’s training manager Laura was invited to open this year’s Best of British event.
The event brings together the biggest names in the industry for a day of education, trade stands, live music and in true Scottish fashion, beer!
Laura was on stage cutting shapes at 1pm, choosing to create a modern style with an edge – the textured crop.
This is a style that works for all hair types – lightening thick hair and adding volume to fine hair.
To create this look, Laura tapered our model Dan’s sideburns to a zero, and used a cut throat razor around the recession line, behind the ear and towards the taper. Doing this creates an incredibly sharp look, allowing the taper to really pop – especially while on stage.
She then opened the 2 guard and flicked above the ear before using scissor over comb – bending the comb towards the floor to create texture and to keep the width up top.
For the top, she created vertical sections which were pulled up to point cut – enhancing the choppy wavy look needed to create the finished look. Next the front section was pinned back, leaving a fringe at the front to create a guideline for the blunt fringe.
Laura then continued to texturize the top, making the cut almost appear disconnected which would help when it came to styling Dan’s hair.
American Crew products were used on the day of the event by all barbers, but when recreating this cut in store, Ruffians Styling Paste and L’Oréal Super Dust would be all you need to keep this style matt and choppy.
The Best of British Barbering and Hairdressing Event is a fantastic example of how the ever evolving nature of the industry combines talent and creativity to blend the boundaries of both male and female styling.
This year the event was held in the stylish Edinburgh venue, The Caved, and the whole Edinburgh team were there to cheer Laura on while she showed off her skills on the main stage.
